{Darkness}
Oh dear...
It would appear your soul has found it's way out of your own reality and is trying to enter another...
My name is The Gatekeeper.
<img src="https://boogalooassetspage.yolasite.com/resources/ebman.png" width="1280" height="720" alt="Two foxes" margin-left: auto margin-right auto>
This realm has many names but I prefer 'Electric Boogaloo'. Think of the Electric Boogaloo as a conduit of all of the different realities that exist. I reside here to... regulate all incoming traffic...
You are about to enter the realm colloquial reffered to as the 'paint dimension'. It is a land of peace, music, war and thievery, much like your home. Their appointed ruler, the Archwizard Roy, found himself hurtling through here just the other day and wound up taking on the form of a 'cat' from your world.
The curious creature wanted to discover other dimensions when he discovered the existence of the Electric Boogaloo through years of studying it. His wish was granted but his world was left without a ruler. This has now led to a power vacuum which has already been filled by a 'Greylord Ronnie'. He wishes to turn the world to greys and banish the colourful paints the dimension gets it's name from...
You wish to return home? It is possible. The Archwizard's sages will know a way if you decide to aide them. Equally, the Greylord has a council of Temporal Barons which will no doubt reward your loyalty with passage way back through the Electric Boogaloo...
Alas, the desicion you make is not mine to decide...
{Before you, a great temple appears. You are inside it. In front of you are two open doors}
You must now decide on your form... what will you look like on the way out? What type of person will you be? What desiscions will you make? I will leave the rest to you...
{Two doors. One ancient looking stone frame, devoid of colour. The other, bolstered with seven bright crystals each representing a different colour in the visible spectrum}

{you also realise that you are not speaking yourself}

Almost all of these creatures and monsters are now thought to be extinct except for two races. One, are the Fennen, who are belived to be direct descendants of fox creatures who used to thrive in the large wooded ecosystems.Now, the land that used to harbor such a wealth of fauna and flora has been stripped barren and replaced by the gigantic orb cities of the Molluscuns, tainted spawns of experiments gone wrong on former non-sentient creatures.
What very few Ent that remain, stay extremely hidden in only the most protected forests, with minimal contact between other Ents so as to avoid being spotted by a poacher. The scholars who are aware of their existense predict they will be extinct in a matter of decades.

Truth be told, Gnomes play a very significant role in blending potions made of mushrooms and other forest delights. What started off as a good buisness to get Gnome economy on a roll was quickly explotied by much bigger, very unkind races that now sell Gnomes on the black market.
Your average urban Gnome can be seen as court jester, personal 'potion' supplier and, more often than not, both of these with a light bit of thievery on the side, owing mostly to their tiny proportions. Fairys, as a society, are practically non-existent. Having said that, fairy colonies are plentiful throughout the world. A long time ago, many different types of fairys existsted, ice, fire, grass and soforth, they would govern the winds of magic and ensure balance was found in every ecosystem. There were governments and agencies throughout the world that would work together and played an essential role in protecting the Paint Dimension from complete ruin.
That all changed.
Some debate that the dawn of mankind ushered in a new era for all, others downplay the blaim on humans and point the finger at the fairies whom began to inter-breed and lose their ability to control their ancestor's magical strain. In any case, the only fairy that remains is known technically as the energy fairy, through it's inate ability to control the mysterious property that is changing the world. To most however, they are simply 'fairys' as they are no the exclusive breed remaining.
Fairys work with humans, dwarves and other higher-races to ensure the dark forces led by the Greylord never rise up too far. Once the world started losing colour, however, even the fairys, with all their wisdom, began to doubt the future of colour.

Lakemaids, resembling humans with gigantic fish tails, exist exclusively by fresh water sources. Most of their day is spent singing, drawing in unsuspecting victims with their inate sexual allure. Unlike the monsterous sirens, lakemaids simply want to commit harmless muggings, daylight roberies or sometimes just practical jokes, to pass the time. Sometimes they really do fancy one of the poor folk who pass by. This is almost always unsuccsesful, however, as the lakemaid's exclusive diet of uncooked trout, salmon and so on makes for a particulalrly potent breath that will knock back even the bravest of souls.
Even if that were not enough to push away any would-be lovers, Lakemaids, despite their feminine appearence, are extremely asexual, possesing a bizzare cubular sexual organ that, from time-to-time, spits out a baby Lakemaid that, for reasons unknown, has a very different genetic makeup to it's parent.
This process, known as half-maid-life emission, has been a huge studying point for researchers into the field of probability, true randomness and, as a result, the fabric of reality itself. This path that was laid out eventually made it's way to the ears of the council of mages where the Archmage himself became very interested indeed, eventually leading to the first signs of the existense of the Electric Boogaloo.

Dwarves are probably the hardiest race in the Paint Dimension. They definitely consider themselves to be that. Every Dwarf knows a miner, or is a miner. Harvesting valuable ores, gems and relics is in their blood. So much so, that what is considered 'poverty' for a dwarf, would be likely seen as pretty wealthy in most other societies.
Dwarven cities are enormous and can be found scattered across the world, always found near a plentiful mine. Dwarvern cities are a mess to navigate because their roads and buildings have been designed around the location of the next mine. When that mine is depleted, they build more roads to the next.
Whilst this has led to considerable blacksmithing skills and claim to some of the toughest warriors wearing the toughest armour in the world, the vast abundance of abanadoned mines left behind from previous dwarf generations has become the home of more insidious creatures...

Humans are one of the most dominant races in the world due to their excellent adaptability which has led them to exist in every city in the Paint Dimension. With this, however, comes some shortcomings. Humans are not the strongest, most intelligent, fastest, most cunning creatures. They do not possess the muscle of the dwarves, the magic of the High elves, the toxic phlegm of the molluscs or the wings of the fairy. However, they do have their machines.
Born out of their adaptability, human machines have changed everything in the world and have, for better or worse, allowed the world to become more connected than ever, more richer than ever and host bigger and far worser wars than ever. Humans have even managed to accidently create entire species as a result of their endless experimentation: the Higher Vampires are proof of this; born from the body of man and transformed with tainted magic seeped from the fuel drippings of engine room of the Electric Boogaloo (of course, the humans and vampires belive this magic to be vampiric or hellish energy, a fantasy, of course).

You have chosen a path and the Electric Boogaloo has deemed you to become a member of this race when you join the Paint Dimension...
The Temporal Barons look almost like humans except for their vastly different metabolism. Armed with four stomachs, a Temporal Baron can only fufill itself with a meal quadruple that of a human. This abundance of energy is of course channeled into an energy in which the race have gained their name: temporal magic.
Temporal magic (in reality it's the same material as the walls of the Electric Boogaloo) is an essence that allows for time travel. The magic works by sending matter in exact atomic equivilence to the matter being used as fuel to power the temporal magic, back or forwards (sometimes left, but never right) in time. Two of the four stomachs of the temporal baron is used to simply power the baron itslef, the other two are used for the magic.
Of course, the Barons have a way of using this magic in plenty of engenious ways, making them by far th most technologically advanced culture in the Paint Dimension. Thier methods and gadgets are top secret though, as is their society which only invites the occasional guest in to their mountain home, that being almost always a High Elf.
The Temporal Barons and the High Elves forged a pact, centuries ago. Whereas the Barons have mastered time, the Elves have mastered space. The two races vowed to never use their magic outside of their own society and to never interfer with the outside world unless the fate of the Dimension was in peril.
The elves belive that both sides have never needed to use their magic on the outside world. In reality, every 50 years or so, dark elves hidden amongst the ranks of High Elves are allowed into power and unleash wars that the world have never seen before, raining death and destruction on all. When this happens, the Barons transport every being in the world, save for the tainted elves and those who bought them to power, back in time and thus on a completely new timeline, or 'dimension'. It is for this reason that the current Paint Dimension is more like the 100th of it's kind and it is also why technology here has never gone past what it does in 50 years time, or so.
To power this great transportation every 50 years, the temporal Barons mostly use their magic to be stored in gigantic battery farms so that, when the time comes round again, there will be enough magic to transport every citizen back in time.

You have chosen a path and the Electric Boogaloo has deemed you to become a member of this race when you join the Paint Dimension...
The High elf society considers itslef 'above' all other life forms, save for the Temporal Barons (of whom they secretely despise but tolerate). A long time ago, a High Elf Indigo Mage discovered how to teleport great distances in an instant and also how to transport objects in a very similar way. This secret art remains a top secret amongst High Elves. In fact, there is an age-old pact between the High Elves and the Temporal Barons for each race to keep their secrets of space travel and time travel to themselves and to only inact the powers should a great tradedgy befowl the lands.
Thus far, neither part have had to use their respective technologies...
Hidden within the ranks of High Elf culture are sects of Dark elves who are planning to topple the High Elves and use the space magic to it's full powers. Luckily, an order of highly killed Space Keepers guard the secrets with their life and a leak of information has never happened in all of High Elf culture.
That is what they thought...
Several years ago, a tiny rift in space was discovered. Viewing the rift turned all of those observers blind in the process. These scholars scribed the vision to their apprentices to write down the information of scrolls, as they could no longer write. When the scroll was complete, the apprentices too, went blind. It would seem even trying to imagine what was through that portal would be enough to send the mind into madness...
What they were seeing, of course, was the enitre Electric Boogaloo, an image that even the mightiest of gods would not be able to comprehend. As to why the rift appeared, some speculate that it is a random occurance that has happend before, unnoticed. Others, however, speak of a more worrying prospect, that the boundries of spacetime are being stretched by the existence of two many parrelel-realties squeezed tightly next to each other, something that could only occur if a gigantic, repetetive shift in a timeline had occured dozens of times over...

What can you say, you lie to steal things? Some thievies are but petty criminals, trying to get rich quick. For others, the life of a thief is one of just trying to get by: maybe this is the only way, maybe society has driven you to become the criminal you never wanted to be. You have chosen a path and the Electric Boogaloo has deemed you to become a member of this race when you join the Paint Dimension...
The vast Skeleton horde is the Paint Dimension's only moving city. On the lower floors of the city are millions of Skeleton creatures, always moving across the world, supporting the metropolis above them. Above them are the lower-class Skeletons, those that are spat out in perpetual combat, only to be re-animated to join those on the lowest layer. The ones above them then rise up in a hirearchy rule where the strongest climb up the heaving tower of moving skeletal bodies. The ones at the top live an extremely good life, full of riches and the very best entertainment.
Skeletons are considered a race on their own due to having a unique society, if you can call it that. However, the origins of each skeleton is dependent on the creature they originated from. Therefor the appearence of every skeleton is different from the next.
Many years ago, a Higher Vampire re-animated several skeletons in an attempt of basic necromancy. What he didn't expect was for all of the knowledge of the magic to be passed on to the brainless re-animated corpses. They quickly disposed of the vampire, then reanimated him to become one of them. From there on, the horde of skeletons grew to unimaginable levels, a seemingly unstoppable force that keeps growing by the day.
Their moving city serves a single purpose: to mop up the dead bodies of great battlefields to increase their size. It is also not unheard of for the horde to eat up entire towns. Other races, vampires included, are extremely concerned that one day the only life left in the Paint Dimension will be a gigantic cesspit of skeletons...

You have chosen the life of a Necromancer.
Necromancers have the ability to turn the dead 'un' but at the rather large caveat that their own lives are shortened to provide the life force required for re-animation. It is for this reason that necromancers will often absorb the life of others, usally gnomes as they are easily obtained on the black market, to re-balance their life expectancy.
Another caveat with necromancy is that life ragained is measured in exact atomic mas. In other words: 1 human of 80kg will be able to provide 1 human of 80kg an amount of life equivilent to the amount of life the necromancer has left. This sacrifice often leads necromancers to focus on reviving lesser lifeforms for thier cost is much less.

Dark Elves are High-Elves that have become elightened in the ways of darker magic, an arcane art completely unique to the Dark Elf. When High Elves discovered their secret to space-travel teleportation, certain scholars began to see worrying signs in the calculations which painted a rather unsettling story...
These scholars found that there was evidence of a ripping effect, found within the fabric of space itself, which, from their estimations, suggested there was an overabundance of matter squeezed into an impossibly tiny space. Realising that this could not possibly be atomically correct, they began to understand that this tearijg effect was being influenced by higher dimensions, unimaginable to the untrained brain.
After much research, the High Elf scientists learned of the awful truth. In seeing this, their brains, unable to cope with what they had learnt, inverted, along with the pigmination of their skin. This pigmination is what led to their name and their minds became both fractured and 'complete'.
What they had seen was hundreds, if not thousands of realties, parrelel to that of the Paint Dimension, that came to be almost every 50 years down a particular time line. In these realities were only Dark Elves, every other specie had become extinct somehow. The rips in space weren't over-capacity, but in fact Dark Elves attempting to tear themselves back into this timeline, known as Dimension Keepers...

Scourgers weren't originally a genetic species, containing a wide selection of dwarfs, gnomes, orcs, humans and goblins who dedicated their life to the Scourger Pirate company to raid the beach towns of the Paint Dimension. Not too long ago, however, the leader of the SPC, Gravy Bones, came across forbidden treasure that was thought to be long-lost in time.
Taking all he could see, the pirate spent all of it on beautiful women, fancy rums and the best cigars money could buy. When he had just run out, the stench of a curse filled his nose just before his nose fell completely off. His skin began to turn rubbery and his eye blackened. Very soon, it became clear, that he had fused with the mother of the sea and had become half human-half fish.
The Scourgers, from that point onwards, took on a whole new form. To become one, each crew member must take a blood transfusion from Gravy himself. Although the physical changes that Gravy went through did not happen to the crew members, they did gain the ability of breathe underwater and were rewared with expanded Liver Capacity. Alongside this, membership to the world's biggest, richest and most succsesful pirate company. The cost? A lifetime locked at sea and the constant smell of rotten fish coming from their skin. A fair trade to some.

The Kinnara are an un-holy abomination not fit for the Paint Dimension, or any of the dimensions, frankly. One of the many sick abominations created by the Rat-men inventors, Kinnara are the result of surgically and magically stitching human slaves together with a horse. Originally intended to be used as a solider in the front-line of the Greylord's army, the scientists intened the creature to be the head and body of a man and the legs of a horse. The opposite occured.
The resulting creature was so hilariously awful, that thousands of human slaves were converted into Kinnara and sold off as court Jesters to hordes of Orcs, Goblins, demons and the like. What started off as a weapon became quite the money maker. What the Rat-men didn't anticipate, was the uprising.
Most assumed that the Kinnara were nothing more than simple creatures with no thought-processing. In reality, the genetic makeup of the Kinnara, through some divine luck, was the perfect recipie for a creature that exists far above those of most others that exist on the land.
Whilst a lone Kinnara seems to inhibit no personality, save for grunts and neighing, every Kinnara together has created a gigantic swarming hivemind. When enough Kinnara were created, the hivemind decided to present itself, starting a perfect uprising across the vast territory they were spread across, displaying unbelivable grey magic powers, a type of magic that is rarely ever seen.
Now, in present day, the Kinnara occupy a continental-sized territory, destroying anyone who passes it's borders. They seem aimless, unmoving, unthinking. They have a plan though. As a biproduct of them seeming to remain in-place in their continent-sized boundry, minions of the Greylord are able to extract the grey magic out of the area from a safe distance...

Ice elves despise the Zebrado nation, in particular. Their warm environment, ability to actually use magic and their riches are like spit in the faces of Ice Elves, despite them living so geographically far away. It is unknown how this specific hatred started but it is thought that early Zebrado travellers found thier way up north and promptly left after seeing how rude the people were up this way.

Halflings that travel out of the Halfling home and out into the dark swamps that lay hidden just south of the Temporal Baron mountains will find themselves making a deal with the Demon Lord that owns the boggy wastes there... those that find him are promised eternal wealth. The one thing that a Dark Dwarf despises the most is being called a 'Dark' Dwarf. Several ages ago, the Dark Dwarf was simply just the 'dwarf', a creature obssessed with mining, hidden within the caves and mountains of the Paint Dimension. At some point, two factions emerged. One side realised the importance of venturing outdoors and making a precense on the world stage, engaging in foreign trade and the benefits of the abundance of food from exoctic farming techniques only found outside. The other side disagreed, arguing that saftey and comfort could be found from in the dark and that the dwarves had lived for centuries without any war living hidden, why risk everyhing?
When the factions seperated and the Dark Dwarves continued to become isolationist, it didn't take long for those once called 'dwarves' to have 'dark' added to their name. At this point, genetically, the two are now very different. Dark Dwarves, the original dwarves, have bright white skin that is firm and hardy, can see in the dark and have such good hearing that echo-location is possible. Modern dwarves on the other hand are physically weaker and have worse hearing but their eyes have adapted to the light outside, their skin is resistant to the beating sun and years of technological advancements, including in education techniques, have made the modern dwarf smarter.

First, the Ratmen will invent a new plague, often one that is specific to a certain race and incredibly effective at transmission, leaving their victims living long enough to pass on the contagion but then ensuring a painful, certain doom. To spread it, they will wage total war on a city, spewing out millions upon millions of their festering spawn. If the win the battle, it's an easy win, but that is not the goal, for every ratman will be infected with the designer virus, gleefully waiting to be killed in combat to spread red, thick, infected blood all over the open wounds of enemy soldiers.
Once a city has been taken over, the remaining populace left within the city walls will be eaten and enslaved. Those that are enslaved will hopefully die through exhaustion, for those that cling on to life will be deemed prime candidates for one of the Ratmen's sick experimentations.
When the greylord decided the world must be without colour, he knew he could bribe clans of Ratmen to distract the world with war whilst he got to work finding the gems. The plan worked perfectly.

Truthully, the Orcs aren't evil but they are also not 'good' either. They are definitely barbaric though and their behavior is shunned across the Pain Dimension and thus the Elves, Dwarves and Humans did not allow them onto the united board in the last age when it was established. The Orcs did not take well to this, not because they were upset about not being on a committee but because being told 'no' is not what an Orc wants to hear.
Orcs are always in-fighting. They are at war most of the time but really, only with other Orc tribes. Their close proximity to the dwarves does cause tension but generally the dwarvern empire is left alone due to it's size and power. The Dwarves happily allow the Orcs to have their land becasue it is unfurtile, dirty and has very little mineable reasources.
At the heart of the Orclands is the Red colour gem, one of the few gems of which the location is widely known. For this reason, it was also the first to be switched off and the orcs were the first to lose their colour. They did not take toi kindly to this change but there was very little they could do about it.

Whilst the Goblins are world renowned for their archery skills, goblins are in actuality also very competent mages. The first goblin was an unholy crossbreed between an orc and a gnome (don't ask how that happend), it's green skin and tiny frame reflecting it's parentage.
Goblins exist all across the world but their two main strongeholds are in the dwindling Ent Forests and also neighboring the Orcs in the magma filled orclands. These two different climates have led for two slightly different breeds of Goblins to appear but scientists have not decided if they can be categorised as different specices yet. This is because Goblins have a streong distrust towards all large civilised races .
This distrust has led to them being named the 'ticksters' of the Paint Dimension. Although they do not possess the firepower to wage war, they do have the skill and ingenuity to lay a variety of traps and tricks, particualrly in their forest home, at the dismay of anyone daring to cross goblin territory.
It is widely excepted, however, that killing a non-monster with a trap is taboo, as doing so would only endanger the Goblin whom do not want to defend agaisnt the great armies of the world.

Shades are malevolent sentient creatures that have died and become reborn as translucent spectres to haunt the overworld as they see fit. They have clustered together and in their own way have formed small cluster of life in the outer rims of the Paint Dimension.
When anyone dies in the Paint Dimension, there is a 0.0001% chance they will be reborn a shade. This chance multiplies based on the magical strengh of the person that perished. It is also possible to be made into a shade through grey magic and equally it is possible to be made forever dead if one is to be reborn through necromancy.
This strange occurance is a direct result of the rip in space-time caused by the conflict between elves, dark elves and temporal barons. Shades are technically the souls of those who are dead in the Paint Dimension but alive in a parrelel reality. This should not be possible ordinarily. This same rift is why you are able to exist in the Electric Boogaloo and how the Archwizard travelled into your dimension.
Of course, whilst the time war of the Dark Elves is worsening the rift, the only reason why the temporal barons and the elves discorvered their respecitve time/space magic is due to the singularity caused by a time travelling four-legged creature from a dimension far away from both the Paint Dimension, and yours.

Dark Lords often have their own armies to command. Unfortunatly to them, it's difficult to take them seriously when they spend half of their time being comically 'evil', laughing in a mirror and generally trying to come across as menacing.

The hounds, led by the Greylord Ronnie, are an un-holy sect hidden in the seedy underbelly of the Paint Dimension. They were bought here by chance, as hitchikers travelling from Earth, bypassing the Electric Boogaloo and appearing in the Paint Dimension as they did in their original form.
This led for the hounds to become looked upon as alien creatures, with knowledge of other worlds that others only wish they could grasp. The hounds want to take away all colour from the world. Their reason varies depending on whom you talk to, since they wanted all the help they can get, they changed their story when seen fit.
The true purpose is power. A world without colour can only exist if there is a being or vessel holding that colour. The hounds seek to absorb all of it and become trans-dimensional dieties, travelling through the tear in space time and wreaking havoc acorss the multi-verse.

The Felines were a group of cats that the original Roy picked up on his tran-dimensional journey. In Roy's life in the Paint Dimension (which he himself created by default), he set up the order of mages in order to control colour, not fore power, but to ensure that the world remain stable, for he had seen a world without colour and it was not somewhere he thought any creature should exist.
Thus, the colour gems were created. Hidden across the world before most countires in the Paint Dimension were secure, Roy waited for the right time to reveal the location of the gems only to people he could trust: and whom were powerful enough to protect the powerful stones.
